Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli is the oldest technical institute situated in Southern Maharashtra. Establishment of this college in 1947 was entirely owing to the sense of adventure and untiring efforts of Late Shri. Dhondumama Sathe, the founder of the Maharashtra Technical Education Society, Pune. It is a Government Aided Private Institute affiliated to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

  62nd Founders’ Day of Maharashtra Technical Education Society and Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli was celebrated on 9th July 2007 jointly by the college and APS, WCE. Retd. Principal of RIIT Prof. M. V. Jogalekar was the chief guest. Director Dr. N.V. Deshpande and President of APS Prin. H. K. Abhyankar addressed the gathering. Large no. of past students, teachers and students attended the function. The chief guest described the dedicated efforts taken by founder Late Shri Dhondumama Sathe in establishing the college.
